some news: i’m no longer playing with morningside, so i’ll have to start blogging about something else, probably just music in general. i’m still going to post some of the picture that i have from the recording sessions of “The Abuse You Own”. having some trouble getting the pics off my BB.

-we just started the promotion for MorningSide’s new album “The Abuse You Own”
-had a private listening party to get some early feedback
-got the track “Alone In Your Grave” reviewed by insomnia radio (read it here!) and included in their daily dose
-found newmusicstrategies.com through twitter.

twitter continues to connect us with more people than we’ve ever come across before as a band.

You may remember that Sarah writes the awesome music blog “Miss Morrison’s Mix”, that I posted about a few weeks ago.

from a music fan’s perspective, this is very helpful. it lays it out in a nice numbered list, easy to understand. from an artist’s perspective, such as my band, MorningSide, it highlights the fact that you’ve gotta use roughly 10 different mechanism’s to link/tag/tweet/stream your music so that it’s indexed and searchable. this is a serious pain in the neck. it would be better if something reaches a critical mass with the fans, like, say, everyone starts searching on the #musicmonday tag, or the #faibw tag (#FollowAnIndieBandWednesday). then the band can just make sure they include that tag on their tweets. of course, that would make it nearly impossible to rise above the noise. but Wired did make a great point: once you understand twitter, it can be really, really, easy to figure out how to tailor it to meet your needs.

in my hypothetical example, say #faibw really caught on, with thousands of people searching the tag for new independent rock music. it would follow that thousands of bands would start including the #faibw tag, which would really flood the search results with lots of music and you wouldn’t know where to begin. but, ah ha! this is the power of twitter, as Wired mentioned. if you find one or two people that posted a song/band/whatever that you like, maybe you start following that person. so instead of having to always sift through the #faibw results, you just checkout whatever they post each wednesday that has the #faibw tag. in my opinion, this opens up tons of possibilities.

for instance, there’s a UK blog “Miss Morrison’s Mix” that i found through twitter. i’ve been checking in with the reviews, generally agree or at least have listened to the bands that were on there. enough that i’ll now follow the blog on twitter (her twitter name is @SarahCM). whenever she sends a tweet on wednesday with the tag #faibw, i know that there’s a decent chance i’m gonna like the band. or at least, i’m gonna give it a listen.

well, the fine fellow that runs their twitter account also just started a blog discussing how twitter can help independent bands. check it out here: @Bands. these guys seem to be approaching this the same way we (MorningSide) wants to: post free music, share it, use whatever means you can find to get it forwarded to other people, pass it along. ultimate network-effect.

it’s amazing that within the short 1-month lifetime of this blog, i’ve generated more hits by posting about random things than we’ve generated on our main MorningSide website. most of that has to do with the fact that blogs are text based and easily indexed by google. and easily linkable.

anyways, i have a feeling we’ll be setting up a few shows with these guys. it’s significantly easier to have a bigger turnout when two bands work together to promote a show.
