finding new music with Twitter…

March 28, 2009

So a random philly band, ShiningTVScreen, started following MorningSide on twitter. In the interested of making a new friend, I followed back, and have been chatting back and forth here and there. They’re playing the Blinkin Lincoln in may and he was asking what the place is like. I gave him the quick low-down on the place, and he seemed like a nice enough dude. I checked out their myspace, and they’re a kind of spacy/jangly sound; very interesting. vaguely similar to the band Hum, but a little more upbeat.

Anyways, on wednesday they posted up on twitter a link to live recordings from their latest gig for free download. I figured I’d just check it out. Sure enough it sends me to a yousendit.com link, which incidentally, we used a lot to during our recording process to send different mixes to each other. I download the track and had their live recording playing in the background as I was doing some blogging and other stuff. Very cool. Thanks to twitter, I found a new band, listened to their music, totally free, and now will probably go to one of their shows.

if this doesn’t illustrate the power of free, i don’t know what does…
